This page consists of 5.1 surround / Dolby Atmos albums. There is no rating for these because I would not have spent the extra money for them if I did not believe the album itself was an excellent one. I have included both front and back scans so details can be seen if they are printed on the back. On the net I see many requests for lists of albums that are available in 5.1. Although this is by no means a complete list, these are the ones I have chosen to own based on my musical tastes and affordability. There are some 5.1 albums I would still like to own, but either they are already difficult to find, the asking prices are outrageous, or reviewers generally say the 5.1 mix is not good.

This was purchased because: 1. it was available in 5.1 2. I did not own this album 3. It was less than $13. I am glad it was less than $13 because the 5.1 DVD is essentially unlistenable. The sound quality is terrible, quickly noted when spoken vocal makes its appearance along with the music. The spoken vocal is barely audible, which is an obvious indication that the remainder of the album will have inaudible parts, including instrumentation. Not being familiar with this album, you would think that I would accept it as heard, but it was bad enough that I was aware of the inferior quality immediately. I haven't listened to the 2 CDs yet, but I do expect them to be much better. The 5.1 was transferred from a quadrophonic mix - don't know if that is the problem, but regardless, if the result is going to sound like this, just don't do it!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
I had always thought the original album mix was very muddy, and being the fantastic album that it is deserved a good remix. As with Days of Future Passed, the 5.1 DVD is unlistenable. The mix is terrible and the hiss is more audable than my original CD. The stereo mix is very good, and that is where the value of this disc lies. I was excited to get my hands on a 5.1 copy, only to realize that the DVD is worthless. I must scrutinize the process and reviews a little closer in the future!
